FEATURED RESIDENT-JEANNIE EDDY- MAY 2009

Not many people out here in the little hamlet of New Dosey Township may be aware of it, but we have a published author among our midst.  She is a quiet, gentle and talented woman who spends most of her time reading, writing, editing and playing with her grandchildren.

Jeannie Eddy was born in September, 1955, to William and Pat Nash in St. Paul.  She has one sister and 2 brothers.  Jeannie attended the local Polish parish elementary school- St. Abalbert’s and then continued her Catholic education at St. Agnes High School, graduating in 1973.

Upon high school graduation, she took a job as a secretary with the State of Minnesota and worked there for 5 years.  She met the young man who would become her husband when he was the neighbor of her best high school friend.  Jeannie and Don Eddyd were married in 1976.  They lived in St. Paul for 3 years, then moved to Eagan, Minnesota..

Jeannie is mom to 2 sons- Nick and Jack.  Nick at age 31 works for a CNC tool & dye company.  He also heads up a program department for a company that specializes in medical devices.  Jack at age 30 works as a realtor for Coldwell Banker Co. and as a partner in a recording company Wake the World Records, and as a waiter.

Jack is the dad of 2 sons- Tyler, 20 months, and Brody, 4 months.  These children are the highlight of Jeannie’s life these days.  Since they live in the Twin Cities, many trips are made to spend time with them.

Jeannie went back to work as a secretary for Independent School District 196 in Apple Valley and Eagan and worked there for 17 years.  Then she took a job again with the State of Minnesota in the State Fire Marshall’s office. When Don retired from his job as a fire fighter, she quit her job and moved to Cloverton.

It was then that she began to pursue a lifelong ambition- that of writing.  An avid and long time reader, it seemed a natural progression to try her hand at writing also.

To learn the craft, Jeannie joined 3 writer’s groups (1)  the Lake Superior Writer’s Group in Duluth (2)  the Northern Lights Writer’s Group in Forest Lake and (3) The Lake Havisu Writer’s Group in Arizona.   She says she learned so much about writing from the other members of these clubs.  Members would read and critique each other’s work.  It was in one of these groups that she was encouraged to submit some of her short stories for publication.

She has had several stories published- both in print and on-line periodicals.  FIFTY SOMETHING MAGAZINE, A LONG STORY SHORT MAGAZINE AND APOLLO’S LEAR MAGAZINE have all published some of Jeannies’s work.

While in Arizona, she was asked to teach at Book Fair Workship.  With a class of 40 students, she taught the “Do’s & Don’ts of Getting Published in Short Fiction.”

During her early years in our township, Jeannie began writing a novel set in Superior, Wisconsin.  Shortly after that, however, she took a position as an editor for and on-line magazine. She did this work for three years and found it to be an excellent experience.  She had to “back burner” her novel while doing this job because she would have as many 500 short stories to read and edit in a quarter.  She is now back to dedicating herself full-time to working on her novel.

Jeannie has also started her own on-line business.  It is entitled the Superior Editing Service.

Being married to Don, reading, writing, traveling and spending time with the “little munchkins” all bring a lot of joy to Jeannie Eddy’s life.  We enjoy having her in our community and are proud of her achievements.

FEATURED RESIDENT-APRIL 2009-DAVID WAYNE FORNENGO

Most of us who live out here in the little hamlet of Cloverton are senior citizens.  It is refreshing therefore to have some younger people around also.  One such person is a friendly, energetic and hardworking young man who lives in a beautiful new home situated back from Rutabaga Road.

David Wayne Fornengo was born on April 24, 1974 to Dave and Brenda Fornengo.  He has 2 siblings- Jennifer and Brian.  He attended the East Central Schools- kindergarten through high school.

Upon graduation from high school, Dave attended Vermillion College in Ely, Minnesota, and graduated with a degree in Law Enforcement.  We all know it is not uncommon for a person to go into an entire different line of work than what one is trained for.  Such was the case with Dave as he worked the construction trades for many years, eventually doing on-the-job training as an electrician.  He has worked for Drilling Electric since 1998.  His reputation as an outstanding electrician is known far and wide.

On his visits to his cousin Julie Forengo’s home in the Pattison Park area of Douglas County, Wisconsin, Dave met a young woman named Mandy Koski and that was it for both of them.  They were married at the Darrow Road Church up there on February 3, 2001.  During the first years of their marriage, the young couple lived in a trailer on their land while building their home.  In the spring of 2002, they moved into the lovely house.

Dave is the dad of 2 young girls-Julia is now 5 years old, while Lydia is 2.  Mandy works as a dental hygienist in Pine City.

Favorite leisure time activities for Dave include outdoor activities such as hunting and fishing.  He is also becoming more confident on the computer and enjoys that.

Dave has been on our Town Board for 3 years and has been chair for last 2 years. He runs the Board in an open-minded, fair and very capable manner.

It is a pleasure to have Dave and his family as members of our community.

FEATURED RESIDENT-MARCH, 2009- ROBIN FORNENGO

March 2nd, 2009

In her charming home tucked off Rutabaga Road lives a quiet, interesting and good person named Robin Fornengo. Robin was born in Spokane, Washington, on October 1, 1951, to Fae and Carl Merritt. She has two older brothers. Robin’s dad was in the military service most of his adult life, therefore she became what is known as “a service brat”. Some of the places she lived in while growing up were Alaska, Montana, Louisiana, North Dakota, California, and Duluth, Minnesota.Robin attended many different schools in many different states, obviously, and graduated from high school in Fairfield, California, in 1969.

She came to Minnesota to visit a friend and met John Fornengo while she was working as a carhop at an A&W rootbeer stand in Sandstone for 75cents/hour plus tips.
They were married in 1971. John was drafted and they moved to Germany. John was there for 2 years, but Robin left after 18 months and moved in his parents Doris and Tony Fornengo here in Cloverton . When John’s service duty was over, he returned to Cloverton and worked on the railroad in Markville.

Robin and John and the 2 children they had by now lived in a garage which they had built first on their land on Rutabaga Road. They had no running water and no indoor plumbing. Their children Jason and Brannan had been born in 1974 and 1977 respectively. Their lovely house was completed in 1979.

In 1993, Robin started Licensed Practical Nursing classes at Lake Superior College in Duluth. After she received her nursing certificate, she worked at many places in Pine County. She was a county home health aid for awhile, then worked as a nurse at the Pine Medical Nursing Home, the Siren, Wisconsin, Nursing Home, and every clinic in Pine County at one time or another. Her last nursing job in the area was with the Lake Lena Clinic of the Mille Lacs Ojibway Band. She now communtes north to work at the Duluth/Superior Life Care Center.

A devout Christian, Robin is a member of the Siren Assembly of God Church. She enjoys many “women only” activities through the church. A hiking trip down the Grand Canyon and a canoeing trip in the Boundary Waters Canoe Area are just two of the wonderful experiences she has had with her friends. Her next adventure is to learn dog sledding by taking a course for women in the BWCA next year.

Other leisure time activities for this remarkable woman include reading, playing guitar, taking walks and spending time with her grandchildren.

We enjoy having you in our little township, Robin, and look forward to seeing you “mush” those dogs up and down the roads.
