MINUTES-NEW DOSEY TOWN BOARD REGULAR MEETING-MAY 11, 2009
Meeting called to order at 7:30 p.m. by Chair Dave Fornengo. Also present were Supervisors Don Mishler and Dave Baker, Treasurer Vicki Elliott, Clerk Fran Levings, and Todd Elliott.
Motion by Dave Baker, second by Don Mishler to approve both the minutes of the April 15, 2009, regular Board meeting and the minutes of the Board of Review and Equalization meeting of April 13, 2009. Carried.
Treasurer Vicki Elliott presented the treasurer’s report (Attached to file copy of these minutes) Fund Balances were: General Fund-$1791.82, Road & Bridge Fund-$14784.57, Cemetery Fund-$154.02, Fire Protection Fund-$108.34, Fire Hall Fund-$309.07, Proffit & Hanson Cartway Fund-$1428.41 and Savings Account-$7000.00. She reported that we have received $125 in donations to the “Perpetual Care” Cemetery Fund. Motion by Dave Fornengo, second by Dave Baker, to accept the treasurer’s report. Carried.
Clerk Fran Levings presented the Claims List and the Net Employee Pay List for approval. (Attached to file copy of these minutes) Motion by Don Mishler, second by Dave Fornengo to pay the bills. Carried.
CLERK’S REPORT:
1. Thank-you notes were received from Family Pathways Senior Services and the Seven-County Senior Federation for our Contract for Services donations.
2. Cemetery Clean-up has been set for May 15 at 1 p.m.
3. Plaque with added names to our Honor Roll was presented. A ceremony will be scheduled for this summer for family and friends on those on the plaque.
4. Request to change June meeting date from June 8 to June 10.
ZONING REPORT:
1. Brief discussion the special Arna Town meeting on zoning which the clerk had attended for the first 2 hours.
OLD BUSINESS:
1. A road will be selected during the 2009 Road Review to be used as a trial run with the road disc. Rydberg Co. would crush 1000 yds. of gravel for #3.34/yd. Gravel could be stored in County pit located in our township indefinitely. Motion by Dave Fornengo, second by Don Mishler, to order. 1000 yrds to be crushed. Carried.
2. Todd Elliott recommended an inexpensive company in Pine City to use a vinyl sticker to put township name on truck. Vicki Elliott said she would get the forms for a DOT number. Mr. Elliott will get the name of the company for the clerk.
3. June 13th was set for a tentative date for the 2009 Road Review.
4. Supervisor Baker reported that Al Holter had sent the Wind Meter back to Davis Instruments Co. in CA. Davis will keep it for a month or so to see what the problem is, then township options are to get it fixed, replace it, or have our money refunded.
5. Chair Fornengo reported that Ron Kern does want his driveway designated as a township road. Mr. Fornengo told him it would take some time to get in certified as a township road and have a sign put up.
NEW BUSINESS:
1. Clerk Levings reported on a phone conversation in which 2 weekenders requested to have the meeting day changed back to Fridays instead of Mondays. Since Mondays are more convenient for members of the Board, consensus was to keep Monday as the meeting night, but to put an e-mail address on the township website so that people can submit comments to us;.
ANYTHING ELSE TO COME BEFORE THE BOARD:
1. Supervisor Mishler reported that Roger Seeley had requested that a school bus sign be installed by his property. Mr. Mishler told him he would have to do this via Pine County.
2. Supervisor Mishler reported that he got the old lawnmower up and running to be used as a back-up.
3. Motion by Dave Baker, second by Dave Fornengo, to honor the Clerk’s request for a meeting date change in June from the 8th to the 10th. Carried.

It is doubtful that New Dosey Township would be governed and operated in the fine fashion that it is without the work that is done by Don Mishler. As a town board supervisor, the grader operator, the township mechanic and the “go-to “guy in general, Don is responsible for most of the “nuts & bolts”, day by day functions of our township.
Donald Darold Mishler was born on his father’s birthday, February 26, 1939, to Joe and Lydia Mishler. He was the middle child of three sons. His parents lived in Cloverton at the time and he was born in the Pine City Hospital. Don attended the first 8 grades of school at the Cloverton School, then went to high school in Sandstone, graduating in 1957.
Upon graduating from high school, he worked for one year on the Great Lakes as a seaman, then, in 1958, he worked for a few months at the only job he was ever fired from. That’s right, Mr. Work Ethic himself was actually fired from a job. It wasn’t his fault- he was in a minor accident on his construction job in Sherbourne, Minnesota, caused by an inattentive driver in another vehicle. But company policy was that one accident of any kind was a fireable offense.
In 1959, Don went to work as a lead-man setting up machines for Cornelius Company (later IMI Cornelius) in Anoka County. He worked there for 42 years until his retirement in 2001.
Don married Adeline Oehrlein in 1959 and they had 2 children Diana and Brian and they adopted a third child Jason in 1970. Don and Adeline had another child who only lived for four hours. Diana works for Anoka County, while Brian works in construction and Jason is at Central Sand Blasting Co. Don and Adeline were divorced in 1980.
A young widow named Marlene Bowman had worked with Don at Cornelius for 12 years and in the early 1980s, a relationship was sparked. Don and Marlene were married in 1982. Marlene had a daughter Pam who joined the family. Tragedy stuck the Mishler family in 1984 when Pam’s daughter Nicole at age 6 was murdered, and again, in 2004 when Diana’s daughter Cassie,18, died in a car accident.
Don and Marlene had been coming back to Cloverton for many years as weekenders in the cabin he owned next to his mom Lydia’s farm. They worked on the cabin continuously to turn it into the beautiful home it is today. They moved up here permanently after Don retired in 2001.
Don has been a town board supervisor for 8 years. He is the Board delegate to the Tri-Township Disposal District meetings. As mentioned before, he is also the town mechanic and grades the roads.
As a member of the Board of Directors for the East Pine County Wanderers, our senior group, he is also active in senior activities. He is also a member of the Seven-County Senior Federation and the Duxbury Volunteer Fire Department.
As much as Don enjoys hunting, fishing and four-wheeling, he is an even more avid fan of both the Discovery and the History Channels.
All of the work done by Don Mishler for our community is very much appreciated.
