-NEW TOWN BOARD MEETING-SEPTEMBER 14, 2022

Meeting called to order at 7:30pm by Chair Dave Fornengo. Also present were
Supervisors AJ Fornengo and Dave Baker (on speakerphone) and Deputy
Clerk/NPAHD Representative Fran Levings. Absent were Clerk Tamara Miritello
and Treasurer Wayne Hessler.
There was no public input.
Motion by AJ Fornengo, second by Dave Fornengo to approve the Agenda.
Carried (3-0).
Motion by Dave Fornengo, second by AJ Fornengo to approve the minutes of
the August 10, 2022 meeting. Carried (3-0).
Treasurer’s Report was tabled until the October meeting. The books are almost
completely reconciled. Two figures of $62.01 and .29c are needed for
reconciliation. Motion by Dave Fornengo, second by AJ Fornengo to remove
these 2 entries. Carried (3-0). Clerk will meet with CTAS specialist from MAT
and work out the final reconciliation.

    OLD BUSINESS:
  3. Road Work- Chair Fornengo reported that Pine County used some
    gravel from the township gravel pit, then replaced what they used. He
    also reported that the new grader needs some work and he is taking
    care of it.
    NEW BUSINESS:
  4. NPAHD Report-
    a. Dr. Thomas Witt, Essentia- Sandstone administrator reported
    that the hospital is having extreme staffing shortages. They
    have 9 beds at the hospital, but can only staff 4 of them. This
    problem is not unique to Sandstone. There is a statewide and
    nationwide shortage of medical staff-not just doctors and
    nurses, but also radiologists, lab technicians, all medical fields.
    b. They hope to have the new Essentia Hospital in Duluth open in
    the spring of 2023.
    c. The Hospital District approved a grant request of $3,000.00 from
    Community Connection Allies. This non-profit organization
    provides and delivers food twice/weekly to senior, veterans and
    low-income people in northern Pine County. Clients are asked to
    pay $7/meal if possible, but not required if they cannot afford it.
  5. ELECTIONS REPORT-

New Dosey Township now has 56 registered voters. For the
August 9 Primary Election, 14 persons voted. 4 voted in the
Republican Primary, 5 voted in the DFL Primary and 5 voted non-
partisan. There were 8 votes in favor of the school referendum

and 6 in opposition. Mail-In ballots for the Midterm Election will
be mailed on September 23.

  1. Road Work
    1. All Road work has been completed for the 2022 Season.
      1. Roadside brushing/tree clearing still being down on a few roads.
      1. Landowner requested culvert – Board approved.
    1. Part broken on grader wing, will be fixed by Dave & Jason
    1. Old grader is missing some bolts -those will be replaced.
    1. County will be doing some crushing in our reserved pile.

NEW BUSINESS

  1. NPAHD Report
    1. The Hospital District will have an informational booth at the Quarry Days celebration in Sandstone on August 13th.
    1. The Health Care Needs Committee approved an application for an Educational Loan for a person who is currently an EMT to become trained as a Paramedic. This will no go before the Executive Board, then the full board for approval. This loan will be forgiven if the recipient is employed by Essentia Ambulance Service for 2 years after successfully completing the coursework.
  2. ELECTIONS Report
    1. Clerk Tammy Miritello is in charge of all elections.  She has appointed Fran Levings to be the Election Assistant.
    1. New Dosey Township is no longer part of MN District 11B. We are now part of House District 11A which is headquartered in Cloquet.  We are now represented by Mike Sundin and not Nathan Nelson.  Mr Sundin is retiring and both parties have a primary to replace him. 
    1. Beverly Carlin, Robin Fornengo and Fran Levings have been trained to be judges for the March 2023

    1. All Road work has been completed for the 2022 Season. The board believes roads will be on a 4-to-5-year gravel rotation. The board is happy with how the roads turned out. Fornengo Logging will be doing some roadside brushing to remove a few trees in the right-a-way.

NEW BUSINESS

  1. NPAHD Report –
    1. A series of Blood Pressure Clinics are being held hosted by the District on September. One clinic will be held at the Cloverton Fire Hall from 10am-1pm. First Responder Suzanne Story will be on hand to take the blood pressure of anyone who stops in. This is free to the public. Refreshments will be served.
    1. Dr.Thomas Witt, Administrator – Essentia Hospital-Sandstone provided the following information to the Hospital District:
      1. For the 1st 5 months of this year the following statistics apply:
        1. Patients Days 1,080
        1. Surgeries 252
        1. Emergency Room Visits 4,445
  2. Grader had its Spring maintenance done and new kit was installed that was mentioned earlier this year.
